The alloys obtain their very high strength by precipitation of the phases
CuAl2 and/or CuMgAl2. The alloys are characterised by high strength, poor corrosion
resistance, very low extrudability (typical extrusion speeds are as low as 1ñ6
m/min) and poor weldability.
The alloys are widely used in the aviation- and space industry and also as
machine parts, bolts and rivets.
