A00002.gifAgeing (Topic: 10045)

The term ageing refers to a precipitation of hardening elements in the heat-treatable aluminium alloys.

The ageing process can be divided into two main categories after the ageing temperature. When the ageing is done by storing the alloy at room temperature it is called natural ageing and when the ageing is done at an elevated temperature where the precipitation is accelerated it is called artificial ageing.
