Ageing temperature and time (Topic: 10048)
Different combinations of ageing temperatures and times give different
properties. As a general rule it can be stated that low temperature and long holding
time give the highest strength. This is however not always in accordance with
productivity demands, so a compromise is often made and temperatures between 175
and 195°C and holding times between 2 and 8 hours is chosen for 6000-alloys.
