A00002.gifIntermediate storing (Topic: 10049)

An intermediate storing at room temperature between solution heat-treatment and artificial ageing influence the properties of the different alloys in different ways. An intermediate storing of AW-6082 at room temperature of 24 hours reduces the maximum obtainable strength with approx. 3%, while the same storing of AW-6060 will increase the obtainable strength with approx. 5% compared to storing for 4 hours.

In the extrusion plant an intermediate storing step will be the normal because of time needed for stretching, sawing and waiting in queue outside the heat-treatment furnace.
