A00002.gif Pressing tools (Topic: 10207)

The pressing tool is made of machining steel. The hole in it corresponds to the profile wanted to be pressed. There are two main groups of profiles massive and hollowed.

Massive profiles

The tool consists of a flat piece of steel called the die. The hole in it is made with sparking methods.

Hollowed profiles

The tool consists of two pieces, the core and the die.

The core which makes the hole, is connected to a bridge over which the aluminium metal is divided to several parts i.e four strings, during the extrusion process.

The die gives the profile its outer shape.

Large to medium sized profiles are pressed in a tool with only one hole. Smaller profiles are pressed in advantage in multi hole tools, up to 16 holes can be found.

The life length for an extrusion tool varies with the profile shape and demands of surface finish. The cost for a spare tool lies often in the profile price.
