A00002.gifThe extrusion process (Topic: 10201)

The base material for the extrusion process is alloyed press bars. The bar is cut into smaller pieces which then are heated up in an induction furnace to 450ñ500°C.

The hot bar is pressed with high force through a hollowed tool to form a profile. The pressing speed is between 5ñ50 m/min and the length of the profile is between 25ñ45 m. Cooling of the profile with air or water takes place immediately after the pressing operation.

To straighten the profile and to release internal stresses the profile is stretched in a pulling machine after the cooling. At the same moment all the important measures are controlled and even the surface quality. The profile is then cut into ordered lengths.

The strength of the material is given by the final ageing, natural ageing at room temperature or artificial ageing at elevated temperature 170ñ185°C.
