A00037.gifInfluence of dissolved CO2 and H2S (Topic 11038)

CO2 and H2S are so called acidic gases and whenever present in water, the pH will be lowered. In addition these gases will introduce the opportunity for alternative cathodic reactions in addition to the oxygen reduction.

In spite of this, aluminium has performed excellently in CO2 and H2S containing environments. It is important to avoid stagnant conditions in combination with CO2 and/or H2S containing water, because this may cause pitting corrosion on aluminium.
