Due to Young's modulus of elasticity for aluminium alloys most of the aluminium structures are determined by the deflection criteria or the stability of the structure.

When proportioning a beam, the shape of the cross section of the profile is to be determined by the deflection criteria. The stress in the beam is then to be checked.

Procedure:

1. Use the deflection criteria to determine the profile of the member

2. Check the stability

3. Check the stresses

4. Check the stresses in HAZ

5. Local check of the profile
