A00132.gifWhich method to use? (Topic: 14051)

Chemical polishing is more used than electropolishing because of following reasons:

- more easy to control (the current density used in electropolishing may give special effects on the profile edges due to evolution of hydrogen gas)

- much smaller outlay in plant required (e.g. for rectifiers)

- a lower quality metal surface is required

However, chemical polishing has disadvantages too. Chemical brighteners have greater fume and extraction problems than electropolishing.
