Different treatment steps in a powder coating process (Topic: 14026)

Pre-treatment of profiles is usually carried out by dipping the profiles (a jig) into a sequence of tanks containing different chemical solutions. Most of the producers use chromating as conversion coating, and therefore chromating will be discussed in this manual.

The following sequence of steps is normally used to pre-treat aluminium prior to powder coating:

- degreasing

- rinsing

- etching

- rinsing

- deoxidisation

- rinsing (double rinsing)

- chromating

- rinsing (double rinsing)

- drying

- powder coating

- curing
