A00155.gifProperties of aluminium and endurance of human beings; page 1 (Topic: 15016)

Seen from a fire risk point of view, the properties of aluminium alloys are briefly :

- Aluminium alloys are incombustible materials

- The strength of aluminium alloys are reduced by 50% between 150 and 300°C.

- Aluminium alloys melt between 600 and 660°C.

Most of the fire casualties dies of toxic gasses and loss of oxygen before the temperature-rise is critical. At 160°C man get extreme pain to unprotected skin and after few seconds he get large burns. 150°C is maximum survivable breathing air temperature if the air is dry, if humid the maximum survivable breathing air temperature is lower.

When aluminium alloy structures have reached its critical temperature the temperature of the fire is higher and no human being will be alive in the fire room.
