Aluminium as a reflector (Topic: 15024)

When aluminium alloy structures are exposed to heat radiation. Most of the energy will be reflected ( up to 95% ).

Not standing in a fire, but only being exposed to heat radiation, the equilibrium temperature of an aluminium alloy structure will depend on :

- The distance to the fire

- The temperature of the fire

- The shape of the flames

- The temperature of the surrounding air

- The airflow around the structure

- The fraction between the volume and the surface of the structure

Aluminium alloys good ability as a reflector is used in the oil industry in the North Sea where heat radiation shield is built up of aluminium alloy sections.
