A00155.gifRockwool (Topic: 15026)

Rockwool is as the name indicates made of rock. The Basic raw-materials is the volcanic rock called diabase. A fabrication process produces fibres which are compounded by a phenolic binder.

The commercial products are both mats and plates.

Dependent of type of rockwool product the working temperature is 250ñ750°C. The fibre itself begin melting at around 1000°C.

The density varies from 30 kg/m3 to 1000 kg/m3. For fire insulation the density is usually between 100 and 300 kg/m3.

The thermal conductivity is small for low temperatures but it increase greatly at high temperatures.
