A00199.gifJoining (Topic: 17000)

Aluminium extrusions can be joined in many different ways. One important reason for this fact is that the extruded sections can be designed in such a way that facilitate the joining. The choice of joining method depends on factors such as:

ñ Geometry and material of the parts to be joined.

ñ Required strength of the joint.

ñ Service conditions (temperature, moisture, corrosion etc.).

ñ Permanent or dismountable joint.

ñ Mass-production or few products to be joined.

ñ Aesthetically considerations.

Some normally used joining methods are:

Riveting Screws and bolts

Welding Soldering and brazing

Adhesive bonding Snaplock

Hinge Connection system

Side by side system Friction system

Mechanical joining without fasteners
